  Fed to try and raise consumer lending, lower mortgage rates

The US Federal Reserve Chairperson Ben Bernanke has said that after reduction of interest rates to almost zero, the efforts now would be to raise consumer lending and lower mortgage rates. If that happens, the US economy may come out of recession much faster than expected. Mr. Bernanke feels, though, that the recession would not get over before 2010.
